The advantages of WPC decking products can be summarized as follows

An important overall aspect of the positive look and feel of WPC decking, is the straightness of the boards, consistent appearance and its uniform texture. There are no knotholes or areas of raised grain, as with solid wood.

WPC products are also more dimensionally stable than solid-wood products. This removes the most common problem of solid wood, namely the shrinkage after installation. It can be very frustrating to initially have small, well-spaced wooden boards upon installation that open up to yawing crevasses after he wood has dried.

Contrary to this problem, a WPC product stays the same after use. Manufacturers also claim that WPC products do not warp, cup, twist or cause loosening of fasteners after installation.

WPC products also do not require much maintenance after installation. Staining, waterproofing and sealing the surface after installation is not required as for the general timber decking.

Important information for the use of WPC decking products

Do not expect these products to be exactly the same, or to behave, exactly the same as normal wood.

WPC products are slightly more expensive than conventional pressure-treated stock, depending on the type of conventional wood used. However, with the recent drastic increase in the Nett price of woods, only the bottom range of woods as an average can be used as comparison. Also, the fact that very little maintenance is required for WPC, where as normal woods need to be repeatedly varnished, off-sets this pricing component. It also is less labour-intensive than normal wood. In our opinion, based on our feasibility study in the international market, it appears that WPC has built up for itself a very good name in the market, but being a new product with an actual study of 5 years, it is impossible for any-one to deduce future behaviour of the products. To off-set this issue, we are in possession of a written 10-year guarantee from the manufacturer which applies if the WPC products are installed and used according to the manufacturer’s installation guide lines. However, all the WPC manufacturers state that the average expected life of the product is ± 20 years and more. Our first large-scale installation at Breedezicht Estate Witsand commenced on 20 June 2008. We have found this product to be most suitable to the South African climate due to its use in close proximity to the Indian Ocean, in humid and warm conditions and varying weather conditions. WPC products have been tested using various adverse chemicals, including wine, diesel, petrol, acid and high temperatures.

Due to the used components or surface treatment it is inevitable that composite products can show small colour or surface variations. This will give your decking a natural finish and does not affect the quality of the product.
