Design/Build: National Marine Sanctuary Repairs, Kihei—Maui, HI
Work has recently wrapped up in Hawaii where WPC and our subcontractor, Entoconn of Hawaii, completed various repairs and renovations to NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary for Humpback Whales in Kihei, Maui. Work included interior retrofits, a new garage, CMU trash enclosure, added 2nd floor in Turtle Stranding room, and Mossy stone veneer at specific locations around the building. The new building provides expanded facilities for research and education programs that will enhance humpback whale protection in Hawaii.
This design/build project, awarded to WPC under a Multiple Award Task Order Contract with NOAA’s Western Region Acquisition Division in Seattle, is truly a testament to the design/build method of construction, where teamwork helped create maximum value for the funds available. The cooperation among all team members enabled the successful completion of this project ahead of schedule.
WPC worked with local contractor, Entoconn of Hawaii, to assist with site construction and quality control. Their team did an outstanding job of keeping the project moving forward while providing quality management and workmanship. Other primary subcontractors include Collins and Son, Air Conditioning of Maui, Inc., and Light Electric. All firms worked together in an atmosphere of teamwork to produce a truly successful project.
